The “oh my aching back” desk
coming soon

I’m not going to write a lot about this office as quite frankly I’m not a good enough geek to really get it right. However, all I have to hear is seven screens (not counting the two laptops for a total of 9) and I’m hooked.

This may not fall into the category of “ergonomic” work enviornment but it does one better - it’s fun and cooler than hell! Okay - that last bit didn’t make any sense. Still, an “old school mini” as a desk would likely make the work day fly by. You couldn’t help but grin all day sitting at this genuine piece of automotive history. That’s right, this desk is made from a real Austin Mini not some fiberglass imposter! Mini Statements is a UK company that finds trashed Austin Minis and restores them to a thing of beauty while making them into one of the funnest (yea - it’s not a word) desks we’ve ever seen.
Starting a website can take quite a bit of energy and more than just a few dollars thrown at it as well. It will likely come as no surprise that this site is not paying anyone’s salary, rather it’s an act of love. Okay, love is too strong - but the truth remains that this is the very definition of a “hobby site” where the creator comes home from toiling away all day for “the man” and thinks, “hey, I wonder if I can add something to my work space site tonight after the kids are asleep?”.
What that means is that changes are coming but they may take a while. There are plans for this site, dreams even, but Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will this place be. Send us your stories and pictures, add your suggestions for the site too, but don’t be surprised if it takes a bit for changes to happen. After all, this site is competeing with kids, a wife, and several home improvement projects that are only 60% done.
Clever Work Space is borne of a never ending pursuit to have a work area that makes being tied to a desk more bearable. Most of us give up 8 hours (or more) a day to someone else in exchange for a paycheck which likely doesn’t fully make up for the stiff neck, bad back or annoyance that comes from having to “peer down” at your computer monitor.
If you are going to spend more time working at your desk on an average day then sleeping in your bed shouldn’t it at least offer you a reasonable amount of comfort? Or what if you want to make your work time and your work-out time the same? These are the types of issues that have brought us here. Over time we hope this place will become a resource for any and all who are fed up with 20 year old chairs desks that were manufactured before anyone knew what a pc was.
How can you help? It’s quite easy really. Send us a few pictures of your work space and tell us what you like and/or don’t like about it. While this site will likely focus on computer desk setups we certainly hope people without a computer on their desk will share their “space” as well. Odd, ugly, functional or just plain clever - we’d like to see them all.
